In June 2026, a delegation from Europa-Union Luxembourg joined representatives of Europa-Union Rhineland-Palatinate for a political study visit to Berlin. The group was accompanied by our honorary member Professor Dr. Heinrich Kreft, former Ambassador of Germany and the first patron of Europa-Union Luxembourg.
The participants enjoyed a diverse and high-level programme featuring discussions on current European and international affairs with distinguished political and diplomatic representatives. Among those welcoming the delegation were Sylvie Lucas, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Germany, Gosia Binczyk, Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Germany, and members of the Europa-Union Germany Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, led by Chantal Kopf, Member of Parliament.
Another highlight of the visit was an exchange at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. Although Federal Minister Patrick Schnieder was unfortunately unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict, the delegation had the opportunity to hold an extensive discussion with Dr. Johannes Wieczorek, Head of the Ministry’s Planning Division.
In addition to the political meetings, the programme included visits to key German institutions. The delegation toured the German Bundestag and the Federal Foreign Office. A particularly memorable moment was the opportunity to attend a speech by Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Johann Wadephul during an international peacekeeping conference. The visit began with a reception at the Representation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Federal Government.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights into German and European policymaking and for the open and constructive exchanges with their hosts. The study visit was led by the Chairman of Europa-Union Luxembourg.
Notably, the trip was organised without any public funding. Delegation members covered their travel expenses themselves, while part of the organisational costs was borne by the association.
Europa-Union Luxembourg would like to thank all hosts and speakers for their warm welcome, their hospitality, and the inspiring discussions on the future of Europe.
