Experience Schengen without borders: Three countries – one Europe!

Under the motto “Schengen without borders”, the Europa-Union Luxembourg and its partners invited participants to the traditional Europe Hike on 1 May 2025 at the tri-border region. Around thirty hikers experienced Europe where it is lived in practice – across borders.

On 1 May 2025, Europa-Union Luxembourg, together with Pulse of Europe Luxembourg and Europa Union Trier, invited participants to the traditional European hike in the border triangle near Schengen. Under the motto ‘Schengen without borders’, participants were able to experience the European idea where it is most tangible: at the intersection of Luxembourg, Germany and France.

More than thirty hiking enthusiasts accepted the invitation. The approximately ten-kilometre route led through all three countries – and, of course, thanks to the Schengen Agreement, without any border controls, as is unfortunately now once again commonplace at numerous borders within the Schengen area. The route led through picturesque vineyards, along the Moselle and through the symbolic region around the European Museum Schengen.

There was also good food on offer: lunch was enjoyed together at the Maimühle restaurant in Perl.

The Europa-Union Luxembourg would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment. Once again, the hike was a strong sign of how European cooperation can be lived out in everyday life – peacefully, openly and across borders.
